Muscle Disorders
Muscle disorders are rare group of diseases in children.
These are congenital Myopathies, muscular dystrophies, myasthenia gravis, genetic and metabolic Myopathies.
These disorders are presented at any age from birth. Common presentations are muscle weakness, motor developmental delay. Among these, DMD is a common type of muscle disorder, affecting male children.
Diagnosis needs special investigations like CPK, muscle biopsy, MR imaging, and genetic testing. Treatment options are drugs, physiotherapy.

Nerve Disorders
Nerve disorders also known as neuropathies. These can be acute (sudden), progressive and chronic.
Neuropathy can be caused by a wide range of underlying medical, biochemical and neurological conditions.
Three different types of nerves are most often affected by neuropathy, either singly or in combination with each other.
Mononeuropathy will be part of the diagnosis when only one type of nerve is affected, and polyneuropathy will be noted when multiple nerves are affected.
Neuropathy symptoms includes weakness, cramping, tingling and numbness and loss of sensation. In children most of the neuropathies are hereditary. GBS is common acquired neuropathy in children, mostly due to post infectious etiology.
Neuropathies can be diagnosed by history, NCS, EMG and genetic studies. Variable treatment options available based upon etiology of neuropathy.
